LEGO 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade Set Leaked Ahead of August 2026 Release

LEGO and Nintendo appear ready to take fans back to where one of gaming’s greatest stories began, with reports suggesting that LEGO 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade could launch during summer 2026.

The LEGO Group has already officially teased a new Donkey Kong product through a short “Rolling Soon” animation featuring one of the barrels made famous by the original arcade game. LEGO has also published dedicated Donkey Kong teaser pages on its UK and US websites, confirming that a new set featuring Nintendo’s necktie-wearing gaming icon is genuinely on the way.

What LEGO has not yet officially confirmed is the product’s final name, price, piece count or release date. However, information circulating through LEGO news sites, retailer databases and leak communities consistently points towards an 18+ LEGO Super Mario set numbered 72051, believed to recreate the original Donkey Kong arcade cabinet.

LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade 72051 – Rumoured Set Details

According to the information currently available, LEGO 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade is expected to contain 1,367 pieces and may launch on 1 August 2026.

Pricing remains less certain. Earlier reports and database listings placed the set at approximately $169.99 / €169.99, while more recent reports based on apparent packaging images suggest a US price closer to $199.99. Until LEGO publishes the official product page, collectors should treat all pricing as provisional.

The apparent design takes inspiration from Nintendo’s original 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game rather than the later Donkey Kong Country titles. That makes this an especially important subject for retro gaming fans, as the original game introduced the world not only to Donkey Kong but also to the character then known as Jumpman, who would eventually become Mario.

A Brick-Built Tribute to the Original Donkey Kong Arcade Cabinet

Early images reported online suggest that the model recreates the familiar upright arcade cabinet, complete with colourful side artwork, a screen inspired by the original platform layout and recognisable controls on the front.

The design appears to include Donkey Kong at the top of the game screen alongside Pauline and a retro version of Jumpman. The sloping girders, ladders and rolling barrels associated with the original game also seem to play an important role in the display.

The controls visible on the front of the cabinet have prompted speculation that the set may include a mechanical play feature. LEGO has previously used gears, chains and moving mechanisms to recreate classic gameplay in models such as LEGO Icons PAC-MAN Arcade. A movable joystick or barrel control could potentially animate the characters or send a barrel rolling through the brick-built level.

However, the precise functions have not yet been officially demonstrated. Fans should therefore wait for LEGO’s full reveal before assuming that the model will offer completely playable arcade action.

How LEGO 72051 Could Compare with PAC-MAN Arcade

The most obvious comparison is LEGO Icons PAC-MAN Arcade (10323), the 2,651-piece model released in 2023. That set combined a detailed arcade cabinet with an internal moving maze mechanism, rotating character display and a miniature 1980s gaming scene.

At a reported 1,367 pieces, Donkey Kong Arcade would be considerably smaller than PAC-MAN Arcade. That does not necessarily mean it will be less impressive. The Donkey Kong cabinet could use larger printed or decorated elements and a more open internal structure, while still delivering the recognisable shape and mechanical movement collectors expect from a premium gaming model.

A smaller design could also make the set easier to display alongside LEGO Nintendo models such as the Nintendo Entertainment System, PAC-MAN Arcade and Game Boy. For collectors already building a brick-built gaming room, Donkey Kong could become a natural centrepiece.

Donkey Kong Has Appeared in LEGO Before

This would not be Donkey Kong’s first appearance in LEGO form. The character previously joined the interactive LEGO Super Mario range through expansion sets and has also appeared within LEGO Mario Kart releases.

Set 72051 feels different, however. Rather than functioning as an accessory for the interactive course system, the rumoured arcade cabinet appears to be a dedicated adult display model celebrating Donkey Kong’s history and Nintendo’s earliest arcade era.

That shift could significantly broaden its appeal. The set may attract LEGO collectors, Nintendo fans, arcade enthusiasts and adults who remember playing Donkey Kong during the early years of home and coin-operated gaming.

LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade Investment Potential

From an Investabrick perspective, LEGO 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade has several characteristics that could make it an interesting long-term collector set.

Donkey Kong is one of Nintendo’s oldest and most recognisable characters, giving the model considerable nostalgic value. An arcade cabinet also provides a strong display format that appeals beyond the traditional LEGO market, potentially attracting collectors of Nintendo memorabilia and vintage gaming hardware.

The set’s connection to the original game could be particularly important. Rather than representing one specific modern title, it celebrates a landmark moment in video game history and the origins of both Donkey Kong and Mario. That gives the subject enduring cultural relevance.

Premium gaming-inspired LEGO sets have also become an increasingly important part of the adult portfolio. Models based on PAC-MAN, the Nintendo Entertainment System and other classic hardware demonstrate that LEGO and Nintendo recognise the demand for sophisticated display sets aimed at older fans.

Nevertheless, investment potential will depend heavily on the final model, official price and length of production. A beautifully engineered cabinet at a competitive price could attract strong demand, while a high launch price or limited functionality may make discounts more important for investors seeking the best entry point.

As always, future appreciation cannot be guaranteed. Collectors should wait for LEGO to confirm the complete specification before making any firm investment judgement.

And Finally…

LEGO 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade is shaping up to be one of the most exciting LEGO Nintendo releases of 2026.

The combination of an iconic arcade cabinet, one of gaming’s greatest characters and the possibility of interactive mechanical functions gives the model enormous nostalgic appeal. It could also become the perfect companion to LEGO PAC-MAN Arcade and the growing collection of premium Nintendo display sets.

For now, LEGO has only officially confirmed that Donkey Kong is “rolling soon”. The reported August release, 1,367-piece count, pricing and detailed design must still be treated as unofficial until the full announcement arrives.

But if the apparent early information proves accurate, LEGO fans may soon be jumping barrels, climbing girders and chasing a new high score in brick-built style.
